Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase. Senior Software Engineer, Mobile (Platform - Identity) We're hiring a Senior Mobile Engineer to join the Identity team within the Platform group and own the native mobile architecture for Coinbase's identity verification and authentication surfaces. This team builds the trust layer that protects every customer interaction, from onboarding through ongoing account access, across iOS and Android. You'll set the technical direction for how Identity experiences are built natively, drive the strategy for native versus webview delivery, and raise the quality bar for mobile engineering across the Identity org. What you'll do: • Own the native mobile architecture for Identity surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, defining module boundaries, navigation patterns, and platform abstractions that product teams build on as Identity scales. • Drive the native versus webview strategy for authentication and identity verification flows, evaluating trade-offs across latency, reliability, conversion, and user experience to determine what ships natively and what stays in webview. • Build and optimize critical mobile flows including biometric authentication, document capture, liveness detection, and device-aware identity signals, delivering smooth performance across device tiers. • Partner with backend, product, security, and fraud teams to integrate mobile Identity surfaces with platform APIs, vendor orchestration layers, and risk signals while balancing conversion with account protection. • Lead technical design and code quality across the mobile Identity codebase, reviewing code at depth, authoring RFCs for cross-cutting decisions, and mentoring L3-L5 mobile engineers on the team. Required Skills and Experience: • 5+ years of native mobile software engineering experience in Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android, with working proficiency in the other platform and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency. • Track record of owning mobile architecture decisions for complex, multi-screen flows at scale, with shipped outcomes in authentication, identity verification, or similarly high-trust user journeys. • Deep understanding of mobile performance optimization including cold start, frame rendering, camera and sensor integration, and time-to-interaction tuning across device tiers including low-end Android. • Demonstrated ability to drive native versus webview technical strategy, with experience evaluating trade-offs across reliability, latency, and iteration speed for sensitive user flows. • Experience partnering cross-functionally with backend platform, product, and security teams to ship integrated mobile experiences that depend on distributed backend services. • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality. Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
